St. Kevin, Patron Saint of Ravens, “Alone and mirrored clear in love’s deep river.” (Gilded 12″ x 15″)

Description

This profound artwork invites viewers into a moment of sacred communion, drawing inspiration from the miraculous tale of St. Kevin of Glendalough and the captivating poem by Seamus Heaney. Here, the gaze of the Raven—a revered symbol of wisdom and prophecy—holds a secret: within its luminous eye, the tiny figure of St. Kevin is reflected, as if “mirrored clear in love’s deep river.”

Just as St. Kevin endured motionless for a blackbird to nest in his outstretched hand, this image speaks to a profound patience and reverence for the natural world. It is a testament to the quiet power of presence, where solitude fosters an unbreakable bond between humanity and the wild spirit.

The piece is a masterful fusion of photographic realism and gilded luminescence. Printed on LuminaFilm transparency and meticulously hand-gilded with 24K gold leaf, the Raven’s form radiates an internal light, elevating it beyond a mere bird into a spiritual guide. The gold serves to illuminate the hidden sacredness within nature, turning a captured moment into a timeless reflection on devotion, endurance, and the miraculous connections that bind all living things.
