Golden Curlew

Description

This small, luminous artwork transforms a fleeting moment on the shore into a gilded icon. The elegant curlew, a bird whose scientific name, Nūmenius, links it to the New Moon, stands in serene solitude, its long, curved beak mirroring the arc of a celestial body.

Printed on transparency film and meticulously hand-gilded with 24K gold leaf, the artwork emanates a soft, internal light that suggests a timeless, sacred space. The curlew becomes a symbol of spiritual navigation and renewal, guiding the viewer through the peaceful waters of reflection. Like the bird in the poems of Yeats, “And we hear the sweetest sound / Come from the eaves of the earth / To the curlew’s cry…,” this Golden Curlew calls us away from the noise of the world and into the quiet, pristine beauty of the wild, reminding us that true treasures are found in moments of solitude and natural wonder
