As a member of the Great Old Broads for Wilderness, I am learning how to do Field Checking. Volunteers go into units slated for clear cutting by the Forest Service and document the forest—girth and height of trees, percentage of closed canopy, diversity of landscape, animals, plants and fungi—whatever we see, we photograph and note then bring to the attention of the Forest Service, which is legally obligated to receive and process that information before going forward with the sale.
Many kinds of voices are needed to fill out the picture of the diversity of public use of the forest, so this kind of lyric and reflective video is also activism.
Absolutely ! This is Activism absolutely. I could almost feel the mist and the spongy fungi.
Thanks so much Janet! That’s the beauty of video 🙂
